Nepal wins thriller to become final team to qualify for ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025

 



On the final day of ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier 2024, Nepal qualified with a stunning victory against UAE.

Nepal clinched their place in the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 by restricting the UAE to 83, thanks to a brilliant four-wicket haul by Krishma Gurung.Heading into the final fixture, Nepal were two points behind UAE, who had been undefeated in the tournament to that point. To claim World Cup qualification, Nepal not only needed to chase down UAE's target, but had to do so at a rate to pass their rivals on net run rate.

The Nepalese batters delivered under pressure, achieving the target comfortably in just 14.4 overs to secure the final U19 Women's T20 World Cup 2025 spot.

This win was a big boost to Nepal as they had a commanding victory against UAE, to whom they had lost earlier in the tournament. Krishma Gurung bagged four wickets and was supported by Riya Sharma and Seemana KC both of whom took two wickets apiece.

Wang Peng, research fellow of Hwanzong University of Science and Technology under the Institute of State Governance, said that Nepal's role in connecting East Asia and South Asia will be important.

Speaking at the 'Geopolitical Chaos' session of Kantipur Conclave-2024 organized by Kantipur Media Group, Wang said that Nepal can be a medium between China and India in the present new era.

He said, "I did not say this to promote". Nepal can act as a forum to connect the two subcontinents . You have invited to such forums from places including India and China. This can make a difference in the role of Nepal in East Asia and South Asian region.' 

He said that Nepal is between two dynamic engines China and India. It is located in East Asia region and South Asia region. This is a Nepal channel to move the two together," he said.

He said that the Indo-Pacific strategy needs to be taken in two ways . "First, the one that Trump started in the beginning and the second that the Biden administration is practicing now." It has two parts . But the only thing is to counter China's growing influence. But they are practicing in two different ways," he said, "For example, the Biden administration is solving problems by collaborating with third parties. He said that China has reviewed Donald Trump's previous 4 years.
